MANILA, Philippines — Saudi Arabia authorities have arrested a man in connection to the death of a 52-year-old Filipina household worker, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

The victim was found dead inside a hotel room in Jeddah last week.

The man who was arrested was the last person seen with the Filipina worker before she was reported missing and found dead, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah said.

"Consul General Edgar Badajos said authorities are expected to give an update on their investigation and provide the results of the autopsy on the remains of the Filipina worker when the eid holidays end next week," DFA spokesperson Elmer Cato said.

The DFA said details on when the remains of the victim would be brought home would be released when the results of the investigation and autopsy are out.

Consul General Edgar Badajos earlier said the Philippine Consul General is working with local authorities to determine the cause of the Filipina's death, whose identity remains withheld.

The victim first arrived in the Gulf state in 2007 to work as a household service worker, according to the DFA. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
