MANILA, Philippines — Fed up with the alleged involvement of some police officers in illegal drug shakedowns and protection rackets, President Duterte announced last night that he was raising to P5 million the reward money for every erring “Ninja cop” killed by law enforcers.

He said the policemen involved in the kidnap-extortion of alleged drug dealers or operators are making it harder for government forces to neutralize drug syndicates.

Duterte said not all police officers are corrupt but the bad eggs in the organization are pulling down the Philippine National Police in its war against drugs.

“But I think those who are engaged in kidnap here and there, either it’s the Ninja police or the scalawags. So the good practice may be against the ninja cops, I will now raise the amount of P5 million per Ninja cop,” he said.

“If you bring him to me dead, I’ll give you (five million), no questions asked or three million. If (the Ninja cop) is still alive, I will give you P10,000 and a kick in the butt as you go out,” Duterte added.

Duterte said he is serious in giving reward money to make sure that the bad cops would not be able to sabotage the government’s campaign.

He urged the so-called Ninja cops to surrender or the countdown begins for the hunt. And the reward money will be raised until the cop’s girlfriend takes a lover to do the job.

“Five million sa Ninja cops. Surrender within 48 hours. Kasi ‘pag hindi kayo nag-surrender, dadagdagan ko ‘yan one million per month hanggang ang asawa mo maghanap ng boyfriend diyan na papatayin ka. Totoo,” he said.

In 2016, Duterte offered the P2-millon reward for Ninja cops but it seemed there were no takers.
