Ballet Center Cebu’s Acolade

PEOPLE PLACES - Flor Ynclino - The Freeman

Ballet Center Cebu’s Artistic Director Nicolas Pacaña recently returned from a trip to Paris, Nice, Cannes and Vienna. Reason for his trip was to accompany Viea Lampert and Judith Olicia Po who competed at the European Ballet Grand Prix. While there, Mr. Pacaña was coaching both dancers astutely preparing them for the competition.

Actually Judith Po and Viea Lampert competed in the European Ballet Grand Prix held at the Muth Theater, Vienna, Austria last February 6th and Judith Po placed Senior, Top 5 in Ballet, 2nd in contemporary Scholarship to Ballet, Manila. While Viea Lampert placed 1st Junior Classical and contemporary with Scholarships to . . . Zurich Dance Academy, Berlin State Ballet School and Wienner Statsoper Balletakademic. With concentration on the competition, Mr. Pacaña had to give glass for the competitors wherever possible which included a hallway. After the contest and awarding, Nicholas and the two contestants were able to delight themselves in seeing the sights in the various cities and did a bit of frolicking in the snow.

Along the way, they were able to visit the Paris Opera, the Eiffel Tower, The Rosella Hightower School in Cannes France, Mozart House in Vienna, and Triumph De Arc in Paris. And during their stay in Nice, the three were able to stay at the beautiful home of Mrs. Tess Lampert.

Travel Checklist for the Elderly

The Holy Week is about here, and the usual exodus to the resorts or to the provinces. For sure a good number of elderly people will be heading out-of-town with their families. They will travel either by car, plane, train or ship.

Elderly people have ‘special’ needs when traveling. The accompanying family or the elderly themselves need to make the right preparation – for during the trip and for the whole time away they are from home. The following tips are useful:

•Carry the medications in the original pill bottle with the prescription label with you. Make sure you have enough dosage for your entire trip plus a few days extra in case of delay in getting home. Make a copy of your prescription labels in case you need someone from home to call in a prescription while you’re away

•Make copies of important documents, including your medication list, doctor’s name and contact number, advance directives, allergy list, identification, passport and your photo id for a family member in case something is lost.

•Consider purchasing a money belt that you wear when while at your destination.

•Extra pair of glasses

•Additional hearing aid batteries

•Umbrella, rain jacket and poncho

•Sweater or light jacket

•Sunglasses

•Mobile phone or phone card – for both domestic and international calls

•Electrical or mobile cords, adaptors for international use if traveling abroad

•Hat and sunscreen

•Compression socks

•Mini first aid kit with such items as gas-relief tablets, antacid tablets, pain and fever relief tablets, band aids, and topical antibiotic

•Denture container

•Comfortable shoes

•Eye-mask

It pays to make certain that an elderly person travels safe and stress-free as much as possible. (www.firstlighthomecare.com)
