MANILA, Philippines — A light patrol frigate of the French Navy arrived at South Harbor in Manila on Monday for a five-day goodwill visit.

French Navy ship Vendemiaire, a Floréal-class light surveillance frigate, will be in Manila from March 12 to 16.

The crew of the Vendemiaire will participate in confidence-building activities such as shipboard tour, reciprocal receptions and friendly games with Philippine counterparts during their port call.

The Philippine Navy rendered a customary welcome ceremony for the visiting sailors followed by a port briefing on security and intelligence.

"Such visit is also expected to further strengthen the France-Philippines relations which also benefits both armed forces," Philippine Navy Captain Lued Lincuna, Naval Public Affairs Office director, said.

Vendemiaire, under the command of Commander Alexander Blonce, was previously in Brunei Darussalam for a two-day visit.

Earlier this year, France and Japan agreed to conduct joint exercises to counter China's expansion in the South China Sea.

The French government committed to deploy naval vessels in the Indo-Pacific region for freedom of navigation operations.
