MANILA, Philippines — Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos on Saturday said she would only run for senator should the need arise.

Bahala na,” Marcos said in a press conference with presidential spokesperson Harry Roque when asked if she has senatorial ambitions.

Marcos said her family is already bored over the pending resolution of the election protest filed by her brother Ferdinand Marcos Jr. against Vice President Leni Robredo.

So kailangan umikot,” Marcos said.

Robredo defeated the late strongman’s namesake by a slim margin of votes in the 2016 vice presidential race. Marcos Jr. claimed there was an irregularity.

Despite the death of the dictator in exile in Hawaii in 1989, his family has been making a political comeback with his widow, Imelda, and their children becoming powerful politicians in Ilocos Norte, his home province.

For his part, Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte, an ally of the Marcos clan, is “hands off” on Marcos Jr.’s electoral protest.
