MANILA, Philippines ? The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on Thursday reported that Typhoon “Paolo” has maintained its strength as it moves north northwestward over the Philippine Sea.
In its 11:00 a.m. advisory, the state weather bureau said Paolo’s eye was traced 945 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon. It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 145 kph.
International agencies forecasted Paolo (International Name: Lan) to further gain strength and develop into a supertyphoon as it heads toward Japan.
The typhoon is expected to bring estimated rainfall amount of moderate to heavy within its 1100-km diameter.
"Paolo is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Sunday morning (22 October),” PAGASA said.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said it is also monitoring a weather system which affects a number of northern, central and southern provinces.
The low pressure area was located at 150 km northwest of Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
PAGASA said the LPA and outer rainbands of the typhoon, as well as southwesterly windflow, enhanced by Paolo will bring scattered to widespread rains and over Palawan, Bicol region, Visayas, Caraga, northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao.
The agency warned residents of possible flashfloods and landslides in their respective areas. — Rosette Adel
