MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on Sunday confirmed that Maute patriarch Cayamora Maute passed away due to health problems.

Cayamora, father of terror leaders Omar and Abdullah Maute, died of hypertension and diabetes at around 3:07 p.m.

A report from the Philippine Star said Cayamora, detained at Camp Bagong Diwa for allegedly conspiring in terrorist activities, was rushed to a Taguig hospital after his blood pressure went down.

Maute family members were allowed to view the remains of Cayamora before it was taken to Quiapo for burial, a television report said.

Cayamora is a suspected funder of the Maute terror group behind the Marawi crisis. He and others were apprehended at a Davao City checkpoint on June 6.

The four others who were arrested with him were identified as Norhana Maute (daughter of Cayamora), Benzarali Tingao (husband of Farhana), Congan Alfonso Balauag (second wife of Cayamora) and Aljon Salazar Israel (driver).
