MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Justice has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to hold a separate probe into the massacre of a family in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
In its Department Order No. 446, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II ordered the NBI through its director Dante Gierran to conduct an investigation and case build-up over the rape of 28-year-old Estrella Carlos, her mother, Aurora Dizon, 58, and the killing of her three children.
DOJ’s order dated June 30, 2017 is effective immediately and would remain in force until further orders.
Gierran was also asked to submit a report on the bureau's current activities related to the implementation of the order.
Dizon, Carlos and her children were found dead in their home at Ridge Royal Subdivision on June 27. The victims were stabbed to death while the two adults were discovered to have been raped.
It was Estrella’s husband, Dexter Carlos Sr. who discovered the massacre when he arrived home from work.
Suspect Carmelino Ibañes took responsibility for the crime but also alleged that he had accomplices named Tony and alias Inggo. Ibañes claimed that he and his associates were under the influence of drugs and alcohol when they committed the crime.
However, the suspect Ibañes was tested negative for drugs, said Superintendent Fitz Macariola, the town's police chief.
Police Regional Office 3 and the Public Attorney's Office also began investigating the massacre case.
