DAVAO CITY , Philippines – Presidential daughter and Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio slammed the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP/NPA) for calling her a “mini dictator” after she issued a guideline for Dabawenyos now that Mindanao has been placed under martial law by President Duterte.
“What mini dictator? I’m big. My friends and those who know me are laughing at me because they know there is nothing mini about me. Napuno na ko ug kantyaw ha. I am 76.3 kilos with big eyes, big teeth and big ears. There is nothing mini about me,” Duterte-Carpio said in jest through an Instagram post on Saturday.
The mayor has put Davao City under a “hold and secure” status — a response to a threat and/or incident in the general vicinity of an area but not on or very near to a specific area itself – to ensure that necessary security measures are put in place in this southern metropolis after Marawi City was attacked last Tuesday by suspected members of the Islamic State-inspired Maute group.
The hold and secure orders serve as guidelines that the more than 1.6 million Dabawenyos should consider while the entire Mindanao is under martial law.
Meanwhile, Duterte-Carpio’s brother, Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, also hit back at the communist rebels for calling his younger sister a mini-dictator.
“Mini dictator? Really, Communist Party of the Philippines? Mayor Inday Sara is a mini dictator because she wanted to protect Davao City and the Dabawenyos from the threats brought by terrorism? Mayor Inday Sara is a mini dictator because she showed strength and political will to confront the dangers that terror groups like Maute and the (CPP-NPA) bring to the public?” he said in a statement posted on Facebook on Saturday.
Duterte lamented CPP/NPA’s name-calling of someone who refuses to be intimidated, harassed or bullied by communist rebel groups and by their front organizations, and in an apparent attempt to gloss over their image of being the defender of freedom and the oppressed.
The vice mayor likewise criticized the CPP/NPA’s recent order to launch an offensive against the government, especially when the Marawi crisis is still raging.
