MANILA, Philippines — Detained Sen. Leila de Lima’s favorite pet paid her a visit at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame on Saturday.

Coco, De Lima’s 6-year-old Japanese Spitz, visited her for the first time on Saturday. Coco is the senator’s favorite among her 13 dogs with various breeds.

According to De Lima’s staff, Coco follows his beloved owner wherever she went. However, during his visit at the Camp Crame, the pet dog was eyeing a stray cat through the slit of a steel gate in the custodial center before he looked around the compound and followed the senator.

Aside from Coco, former colleagues of De Lima in the Cabinet of the Aquino administration—Julia Abad, Bro. Armin Luistro and Dinky Soliman visited the detained senator. Former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III also visited his former justice secretary last Thursday.

Vice President Leni Robredo also confirmed she visited De Lima last week.

De Lima has been detained at the PNP Custodial Center for over a week now. The Department of Justice alleged she violated Section 5 (sale) in relation to Section 3 (jj trading), Section 26 (b) and Section 28 or the criminal liability of government officials and employees under the Republic Act 9165 also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 for allowing the proliferation of the drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison. — Rosette Adel
