Memes on social media mock Marcos burial

ISYU AT BANAT - Charmie Joy Pagulong - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - “Kahit yung libing, panakaw pa din.”

“Libing now, hukay later.”

“Bes, pakiilaliman ang hukay. Nang umabot ng impiyerno.”

A series of memes flooded the internet following the surprise burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) yesterday.

Netizens have mocked the controversial burial at the hero’s cemetery, saying that even up to his burial he remained a “thief” and some quipped about exhuming his remains and bringing these back to his hometown in Batac, Ilocos Norte.

Here are some of the memes and quips posted on social media sites:

“Hidden wealth na, hidden libing pa.”

“Kung naging Pinoy sana ako, may hero’s burial din ako.” – Adolf Hitler

@jay_beltran:  “I wonder if his epitaph reads: Here: Lies. #MarcosBurial #MarcosNOTaHero #NeverForget”

@rambotalabong: “Hukayin si Marcos! Ibalik sa Ilocos!” #MarcosNOTaHero

@KuyaDeeNg: Infairness sa mga Marcos consistent talaga na laging patago kumilos. #MarcosNOTaHero #NationalAmnesiaDay

Others said they could not  “move on” from the abuses during martial law. Marcos declared martial law on September 21, 1971.

“Kay crush di ako makamove on, pano pa kaya kay Marcos.”

Bitter Ocampo: “Move on from Martial Law? Sa ex mo nga di ka maka move on e.” #NeverAgain

The Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City put up an electronic signboard, draped in black, that reads: “Hindi Bayani Si Marcos!”

Facebook page UP System Bukluran posted: You can bury a dictator but you cannot bury the truth.

“Yung Php450 Billion na ninakaw ng pamilya Marcos ay may katumbas na 20 milyong VIP tickets sa Coldplay concert. May kasama pang hotdog at iced tea yan,” another Facebook account, Imbentong Bongbong, quips.

#MarcosNOTaHero and #MarcosNOhero trended yesterday on Twitter.
