MANILA, Philippines - Families displaced by recent heavy rains spawned by the southwest monsoon continue to receive relief assistance, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo has ordered regional social welfare officers in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Central Luzon, the Cordilleras and Ilocos to continue relief distribution, particularly for families still sheltered in at least 111 evacuation centers.

Apart from DSWD, local government units (LGUs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) have been assisting the flood victims.

As of yesterday morning, the DSWD has distributed more than P9 million worth of food packs and non-food items to flood victims in four regions.

More than P13.7 million in combined relief assistance from DSWD, LGUs and NGOs have been provided to the affected families.

To help flood victims recover quickly, DSWD offices in affected regions will assess the damage and determine the needs of the evacuees.

The DSWD-Calabarzon office has started conducting damage assessment in Rizal province, particularly in the municipality of San Mateo, where several families were displaced by the flood.
