MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on Monday morning lifted the warning signals raised over some areas after it reported that severe tropical storm “Carina” (International name: Nida) was already outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
The warning signals were lifted 11 a.m. after PAGASA reported that Carina is no longer directly affecting the part of the country.
As of 10 a.m., PAGASA said the center of Carina was located 330 kilometers Northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte with maximum sustained winds of up to 105 kilometer per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph.
Despite the lifting of warning signals, PAGASA still warned the public of moderate to heavy rains. Its forecast said MIMAROPA, the rest of Northern Luzon and the provinces of Zambales and Bataan may also experience moderate to heavy rains associated with the Southwest Monsoon which may trigger flash floods and landslides.
Fisherfolk on the other hand are alerted against rough to very rough seas over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon and the western and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon.
PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said there will be fair weather in the coming week. He said ,though, there are about three to four cyclones expected this August.
“So, for one week, wala pa tayong inaasahang kasunod ni Carina,” Aurelio said in a televised press briefing.
