MANILA, Philippines - Unidentified hackers attacked yesterday the website of the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ).

“There has been an attack on our websites, www.pcij.org and www.pcij.org/blog. This is the reason why our sites are not accessible at this time,” said the media organization.

It was unclear if the website was voluntarily taken down by the organization after the attack or was shut down by the hackers.

PCIJ said the attacks followed after its publication of reports on the drug war of the Duterte administration and the “Know Your Rights” advisories for citizens.

“A phrase with explicit curse and threat has been written by the attackers into our stories. We hope to go back online shortly,” PCIJ said.

Its website was back at 9 p.m. , it said.
