Rod Reyes, former press secretary, 80
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang has extended its condolences to the family of veteran journalist and two-time former press secretary Rodolfo Reyes, who passed away Thursday. He was 80.
In a statement, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. remembered Reyes as a lifelong journalist who was deeply committed to his profession.
“He heeded the call to public service twice when he was appointed press secretary by former presidents Fidel Ramos and Joseph Estrada in 1992-1993 and in 1998-2000, respectively,” he said.
“He is remembered kindly and respected highly by all those whose lives were touched by his humble and gentle ways,” Coloma said. “Our thoughts and prayers for his eternal repose go to his bereaved family.”
Reyes passed away due to heart complications at the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa on Thursday night.
Former president and now Manila Mayor Estrada said yesterday that Reyes’ death is a big loss to the country.
