Binay bares top 4 priorities
MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday revealed his top four priorities if he wins the presidency in the May 9 elections.
United Nationalist Alliance spokesman Mon Ilagan said that Binay plans to abolish income taxes for workers who earn less than P30,000 per month.
The presidential aspirant will also push for free books, uniforms and school supplies for public school students, as well as free healthcare for the poor during his first year in office.
During his campaign in Romblon, Binay noted that the poverty incidence rate in the province is 40.5 percent. The vice president promised that he will generate more jobs for Filipinos to help them get out of poverty.
Binay also vowed to continue and expand the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.
Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas earlier questioned Binay's plan on the conditional cash transfer program.
Roxas argued that Binay's daughter, Sen. Nancy Binay, opposed the program in the Senate. The vice president, however, stressed that there is no truth in these claims and that he will continue the initiative.
