Poe camp: Stop jumping to conclusions on SC decision
MANILA, Philippines — The camp of presidential aspirant Sen. Grace Poe on Tuesday called on all parties and individuals involved in the disqualification case against the senator to stop jumping to conclusions.
Poe's spokesperson, Valenzuela Mayor Rex Gatchalian, called on concerned parties to refrain from preempting the decision of the Supreme Court (SC) on the senator's case.
"We should give the members of the SC space to be able to compose their respective decisions without the glare of speculations. The processes and procedures of the SC are in place and we should allow these to take place," Gatchalian said in a statement.
The high court is yet to deliberate on the citizenship and residency issues against Poe in connection to the earlier decision of the Commission on Elections to disqualify her from the presidential race.
According to a report from the STAR, the SC will separately deliberate on the issues whether or not Poe is a natural-born citizen and whether or not she met the 10-year residency requirement.
The STAR reported that there is a probability that Poe will be declared a natural-born citizen despite being a foundling but may still be disqualified for the lack of 10-year residency as mandated by the Constitution.
The Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), the second largest political group in the party, has formally adopted Poe and Sen. Francis Escudero as their presidential and vice presidential candidate, respectively, despite the disqualification cases filed against her.
"I think the NPC became firm on its decision not based on the impending SC decision but on what is right. On what they think is right on platforms of government," Poe said on Monday.
