MANILA, Philippines - There are hundreds of jobs available for new graduates, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said yesterday.

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said DOLE is mounting a series of job fairs nationwide to facilitate the employment of college students graduating this month.

“Job fairs are one of the more tested and effective strategies in employment facilitation,” Baldoz said.

She said DOLE is ready to provide other necessary assistance to those who will be joining the country’s labor market of 41 million.

Baldoz said every year, DOLE tries to improve further the government’s employment facilitation strategies and address the country’s job-skills mismatch problem.

According to Baldoz, the country’s youth unemployment is on the downtrend, with the number of unemployed 15-24-year-olds pegged at 1.139 million based on the October 2015 Labor Force Survey of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

“Admittedly, this number is still high, but we are encouraged by the positive results of government interventions, such as our job fairs, during the last five years,” Baldoz said.
