MANILA, Philippines — A warrant of arrest has been issued on Monday against Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV following the libel case filed against him by dismissed Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay Jr.

Makati Regional Trial Court 142 issued the warrant of arrest after finding probable cause for the case filed against the senator.

Trillanes, however, said that his lawyers are studying the next steps to be taken following the warrant arrest against him.

"Pero kung layunin ng pamilya Binay sa kasong ito ay para tigilan ko sila sa aking pag-uusi, nagkakamali sila. Hindi ko hahayaan ang mga magnanakaw na mamuno ng ating bansa," Trillanes said in a statement.

On April 2015, the Binay filed a libel complaint against Trillanes who claimed that two justices of the Court of Appeals were bribed with P50 million for their ruling against the mayor’s suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman.

Trillanes asked the Department of Justice to dismiss the libel case filed by the former Makati mayor against him.

Vice President Jejomar Binay also filed a libel complaint against Trillanes in September last year for accusing him of "perpetrating a P100 million racket a year in Makati involving ghost senior citizens."
