BSP to issue new bills tomorrow

MANILA, Philippines – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is set to issue tomorrow new P100 bills that are easily distinguishable from the P1,000 banknotes.

The issuance of the new P100 banknotes with a more distinct color was in response to suggestions from the public.

Compared with the current color of the P100 banknote in circulation, the new bills would have a stronger mauve or violet color on the obverse and reverse sides.

All the other features of the banknote would remain the same.

The BSP clarified the current P100 banknotes could still be used for payment of goods and services.

Complaints regarding difficulty in distinguishing the P100 banknote from the P1,000 – especially in the dark – prompted the BSP to issue the new bills.

The bills are part of the New Generation Currency (NGC) banknotes launched by the BSP in 2010.

BSP earlier said the NGC series is user-friendly and allows easy identification of each denomination.

The new banknotes also have several new and enhanced security features to protect the currency against counterfeiters.
