One dead in Northern Samar as ‘Nona’ lingers

MANILA, Philippines – The first official casualty of the Typhoon Nona was reported on Tuesday morning.

In a press briefing held by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the Department of Social Welfare said the fatality was from Allen, Northern Samar, one of the areas hit by Nona.

The reported casualty was identified as Pascual Ausente, 31, who died of multiple lacerated wounds incurred from an iron roof that was torn off and flew during the onslaught of Nona.

Other areas hit by Nona are Calabarzon, Bicol, Central and Eastern Visayas.
