MANILA, Philippines - Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo has joined calls for the removal of Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Jose Angel Honrado.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Permanent Committee on Public Affairs (PCPA) chairman has signed an online petition in change.org calling on President Aquino to replace Honrado for incompetence over the reported tanim-bala or bullet planting scheme at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

“People who are incompetent need to be replaced,” he said in a statement. “There are many reasons why the NAIA has been judged as the world’s worst airport. Now, isn’t that enough proof of incompetence?”

Migrante International initiated the online petition Remove Jose Angel Honrado from MIAA and put an end to the tanim-bala syndicate at all Philippine airports.

Honrado has failed to resolve the tanim-bala  scheme at NAIA that has victimized many individuals, including tourists and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the petition said.

It also accused Honrado of being responsible for the deterioration of NAIA: poor maintenance of facilities, congested runways, rampant pilfering of baggage and lack of surveillance equipment.

“All of which have contributed to NAIA gaining notoriety as the world’s worst airport for three consecutive years,” the petition said.

It has gathered a total of 11,870 signatories since it was created three weeks ago.
