MANILA, Philippines – Vice presidential aspirant Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos on Monday said he is still in good terms with Vice President Jejomar “Jojo” Binay after he declined the offer to become Binay’s running mate.

In a televised interview with ANC, Marcos responded “yes” when asked if he and Binay are still in good terms.

Marcos explained he declined Binay’s offer to become United Nationalist Alliance’s vice presidential standard bearer due to political differences.

“The political divide was too wide. Masyado talagang malayo ang pinanggalingan,” Marcos said.

The senator disclosed that although there are political differences, the decision to not pursue the Binay-Marcos tandem was mutual.

“We tried to see if a tandem would be best for both of us, but in the end it was a mutual decision: Not this time,” Marcos said.

Marcos has yet to choose his presidential candidate. He sees Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte as an option for his running mate but since the mayor said he is not running, Marcos is also willing to run independently.

On the other hand, Binay chose to run with UNA Vice President Sen. Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan. Both filed their candidacy during the first hour of filing of certificates of candidacy at the Comission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila.
