PhlPost to issue special stamps featuring APEC meeting

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Postal Corp. (PhlPost) will issue a special stamp featuring the 27th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting that the country will host next month.

“It was the initiative of PhlPost to issue a stamp because the Philippines is the host country,”PhlPost philatelic service director Leny San Diego said.

The APEC stamp can be purchased starting Monday and will be  available at the PhlPost post shop until Oct. 11 or until supply lasts.

San Diego said their layout artist Rodine Teodoro designed the stamp, which features a globe surrounded by the flags of APEC’s 21 member-economies.

The words “APEC Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 2015” can be seen at the bottom of the stamp and “Philippines” in the first day cover.

PhlPost placed an order for 200,000 copies of the APEC stamp to the printer Amstar Company, Inc.

San Diego said information about the APEC stamp could be seen on their website.

“The reason why we put stamps on the website is so that all the stamps issued by the Philippines would be available to the local and foreign collectors,” she added.

The APEC was founded in November 1989. It is a multilateral organization that seeks to foster trade and economic prosperity among its member-economies in the Asia-Pacific region.

The country will host the APEC meetings on Nov. 18 and 19 in Manila. This year’s theme is “Building Inclusive Economies, Building a Better World.”
