Congressmen to get new protocol plates
MANILA, Philippines - Members of the House of Representatives will be issued new “8” protocol license plates bearing the text “16th Congress” to prevent the use of old and fake congressional plates, Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. said.
Belmonte said the new marking indicates that the license plate would be effective only until June 2016 or until the 16th Congress ends.
“(The new license plate) guards against abuse because there were reports of abuse in the use of protocol plates,” he said.
“Now, we have put ‘16th Congress’ so after your turn as congressman, you can’t use the No. 8 (plate) anymore,” he said.
Each of the 290 House members will be issued two sets of the new protocol license plates to be issued by the Land Transportation Office.
