MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino yesterday assured the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry of full government support in keeping the Philippines’ title of being the global leader in the industry.
“Government will continue to listen to your concerns and proposals, all to ensure that the Philippines stays a global leader in the IT-BPM par into the future,” Aquino told the delegates of the International IT-BPM Summit 2014 at the Shangri-la Hotel in Makati City.
Aquino also thanked the BPO organization for generating millions of dollars in pump priming the local economy, creating more jobs for Filipinos to achieve inclusive growth.
“I am confident that, in the future, countries around the world will be looking to the Philippine example to see how we managed to achieve such striking success and become a global industry leader in just a short number of years,” he said.
Aquino commended industry leaders for beating India “to take the number two spot in the 2014 Tholons Top 100 Outsourcing Destinations Report.”
These are among the “increasingly positive reports” the group has been getting recently, he said.
“Not to mention the fact that six other Philippine cities also made it to the list, namely: Cebu, Davao, Sta. Rosa, Bacolod, Iloilo and Baguio,” Aquino said.
“The story of the IT-BPM industry in the Philippines is one of hard work, ingenuity, sacrifices and success.”
Aquino noted the BPO industry has reached the one-million mark as of September this year in terms of generating employment. “Which makes me hopeful that by 2016, you will meet, if not exceed, your target of employing more than 1.3 million Filipinos,” Aquino said.
“In short, these one-million jobs are equivalent to a million productive employees and empowered consumers, who stimulate the economy and, in turn, create even more jobs, thus spurring a virtuous cycle of inclusive growth.”
