Guv denies reported ISIS presence in North Cotabato

North Cotabato Governor Emmylou Mendoza assured that there is no Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) presence in the province.

MANILA, Philippines - North Cotabato Gov.Emmylou Mendoza on Thursday reitered that there is no Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) training or recruitment in the province.

Mendoza said that her office has been working with local security units to verify the reported presence of ISIS recruiters in the province.

However, she said the provincial peace and order council composed of representatives from Islamic religious communities and the mayors' league, has not observed ISIS activity in the province.

The governor implemented various programs for the youth such as peaceful gatherings among Moro, Christian and Lumad youth groups to prevent them from joining the Islamic State.

The American Intelligence group earlier mentioned that ISIS recruitment among Filipinos is possible. The Philippine Army's 6th Infantry Division has denied reports of ISIS recruitment in North Cotabato.
