Erap won't take on ice bucket challenge

MANILA, Philippines - Instead of taking on the popular ice bucket challenge of former Ilocos Sur governor Chavit Singson, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada would rather continue giving to charitable institutions.

At the sidelines of the bail hearing of son Sen. Jinggoy Estrada at the Sandiganbayan, the former President said he would rather help and not make it public.

"Kung tutulong ka, huwag mo nang ipakita sa tao," said the elder Estrada, who rose to fame with his man of the masses role in movies.

He said he has been maintaining scholarships grants for deserving students up to now.

Yesterday, Singson did the popular ice bucket challenge and dared Estrada to do the same.

The challenge aims to raise funds for the study and research of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Many of the celebrities who took on the challenged have also donated.
