PhlPost to deliver passports

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Passports may now be delivered to your doorstep by your friendly postman.

The Philippine Postal Corp.  (PHLPost) bagged a P21-million delivery contract with the Department Foreign Affairs (DFA) to deliver passports, diplomatic pouches and other mail.

Apart from regular mail and parcels, PHLPost will also provide mailing services for the DFA, making it the official courier of the department this year.

Under the contract, PHLPost would be in charge of the delivery of the DFA’s diplomatic/international pouches for foreign service posts, regional consular offices, temporary passport enrollment centers catering to overseas Filipino workers, government and private offices, embassies and consulates of countries in Metro Manila.

DFA Undersecretary for Administration and Procuring Entity chief Linglingay Lacanlale and PHLPost Postmaster General Josefina dela Cruz signed a memorandum of agreement under which PHLPost will prioritize and give special attention to DFA mail and assign a project manager to monitor pick-up and delivery.

Dela Cruz said PHLPost has diversified and offered logistics services to keep up with the competition brought about by modern communications technology.

“We are transforming postal work to logistics services to support the business requirements of the government when it comes to mail and parcel deliveries,” she said.

PHLPost is the only government-owned and controlled corporation engaged in delivering mail and has the capability to dispatch postal items anywhere in the world in the most economical, efficient and reliable way at reasonable cost, Dela Cruz said.

She added that PHLPost would continue to diversify its services from the traditional mail delivery to logistics to serve its clients, including government agencies.
