PHLPost issues 3D laminated textile stamps

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) yesterday issued its first 3D matte laminated stamps featuring traditional Philippine textiles.

In a statement, Postmaster General Josefina dela Cruz said PHLPost released the Traditional Filipino Textiles Stamps in commemoration of National Heritage Month, as the stamp features the core of Filipino ethnicity woven on the fabrics.

“With this stamp release, we are weaving another milestone in the textile industry. We all know how the various textiles speak about our being a Filipino. Now that it is printed on our stamps, we are giving the whole world a glimpse on how diverse and colorful our tradition and culture is,” Dela Cruz said.

The special stamps, souvenir sheets and first-day cover showcase photographs from HABI, The Philippine Textile Council manual, which centers on Lilia Tasib of the B’laan indigenous people weaving a tabih ftarang, ben buyos t’nalak textile of the T’boli, pisyabit of the Tausug, a delicately embroidered piña handkerchief and a T’boli maiden wearing a traditional malong.

Dela Cruz was scheduled to present the Traditional Filipino Textiles Stamps to Senator Juan Edgardo Angara and representatives of the Philippine Textile Council, Filipino Heritage Festival Inc., National Commission for Culture and the Arts, National Museum of the Philippines and SM Supermalls at 3 p.m. yesterday at SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

The PHLPost printed 104, 000 copies of the block of four stamps which is being sold at P30 each. The souvenir sheet, on the other hand, costs P100 each.

The special stamps are being sold at the Post Shop, Philately and Museum Division, Manila Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, 1000 Manila and all area offices of PHLPost.
