Church leaders to Filipinos : Pray rosary on Earth Hour

Dennis Carcamo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippiines - Officials of the Catholic Church are calling on the faithful to support "Earth Hour" on Saturday by turning off power in their houses and establishments for 60 minutes.

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle said that public should also spend the hour by praying the rosary.

The rosary praying activity will be led by different archdioceses and dioceses all over the country including the Archdiocese of Palo, Diocese of Borongan, Diocese of Antique, Diocese of Kalibo, Archdiocese of Capiz, Archdiocese of Iloillo, Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa Palawan, Diocese of Tagbilaran, and Archdiocese of Zamboanga.

"Inaanyayahan at hinihimok ko po kayo na makibahagi sa Earth Hour sa darating na Sabado ika-29 ng Marso. Mula 8:30 hanggang 9:30 ng gabi patayin po natin ang mga gamit nating de kuryente. Pagpahingahin natin ang kalikasan, mag-ayuno tayo sa pagkonsumo nang tumagal pa ang yaman ng nilikha ng Diyos," Cardinal Tagle told Church-run Radyo Veritas.

For his part, Cotabato Archbishop Orlando Cardinal Quevedo called on Filipinos to light a candle as they pray during the Earth Hour.

"I ask you please to light candles and place them in your windows so that this will show to your neighbors that there is a important obligation for us to protect our environment. During that time one can pray together as a family so that our environment will be protected even more," Cardinal Quevedo said.
