Delivery of P1.1 B worth of Glock pistols to PNP completed

MANILA, Philippines - The delivery of P1.198 billion worth of 9 mm Glock 17 Generation 4 pistols to the Philippine National Police was completed yesterday, PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima said.

The PNP acquired 74,879 firearms with a budget of P1.198 billion, the biggest single procurement in the history of the police organization.

“I heard from the Trust Trade by Dec.  22 all the Glocks would be delivered, and we will be distributing that to police units,” said Purisima.

In August, the PNP listed 146,085 uniformed personnel and 73,797 firearms but the latest procurement of 74,879 pistols would help achieve the ideal ratio of one firearm per policeman.

Under the contract, Trust Trade Philippines and Glock Asia have to deliver the firearms for a period of 570 days after contract was awarded. The first tranche will be within 150 days for 12,000 units, second tranche is within 120 days, third tranche is within 120 days, 4th and 5th tranche within 90 days.

President Aquino personally led the distribution of the first tranche of firearms to policemen.

Initially, the PNP saved about P200 million from the P1.198 billion allocated budget with the procurement at P997,997,045.76 or P16,659.76 each.
