Biazon may write book, but won’t tell all

MANILA, Philippines - When embattled Rufino Biazon leaves the Bureau of Customs (BOC) tomorrow, he would bring with him memories of his two-year stay as commissioner and might just write a book about it.

Biazon, who left his post three days after a corruption case was filed against him in connection with the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) controversy, said he is thinking of writing a book about his experiences in the BOC.

“I might write about my experiences. It is not what it appears to be, (it would not be) a tell all. It will just be about my experience if ever... the objective of that book would probably be an insight of how is a life of a commissioner,” he added.

But Biazon clarified that he has not fully thought about the plan of writing a book.

“It was just a passing thought,” he said. “I do not even know how to start (writing the book).”

At the moment, Biazon has been writing about the significant events in his life on his blog titled “The Way I See It” (ruffybiazon.blogspot.com).

Last Nov. 30, the National Bureau of Investigation included Biazon on the list of 34 individuals recommended for graft and corruption case in connection with the PDAF scam. The case was filed before the Office of the Ombudsman.

This made Biazon announce his resignation last Monday.

Since July, President Aquino has publicly shown his irritation with the BOC. During his State of the Nation Address (SONA), he announced on nationwide television that he was disappointed with the continued smuggling into the country.

Immediately after Aquino finished delivering his speech, Biazon texted his resignation to Aquino. But when the Chief Executive assured Biazon of his continued trust and confidence, the BOC chief decided to stay on.

From then on, there had been many changes in the BOC, particularly in the rank and file of its personnel.

BOC employees were ordered to return to their mother unit, while some officials of the bureau were transferred to the Customs Policy and Research Office.
