Task Group Nicole searches possible suspect’s house

Pete Laude - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Special Investigation Task Group Nicole yesterday searched the house of one of the suspects in the death of seven-year-old stray bullet victim Stephanie Nicole Ella after a judge issued a search warrant.

As of 4 p.m. yesterday, members of the Caloocan City police North Extension Office were searching the suspect’s place. Chief Inspector Ronald Perilla confirmed the search, but said he could not yet divulge any information on the ongoing search.

Task Group Nicole spokesman Superintendent Jackie Candelario said that the suspect is a licensed gun owner whose house is located within the 50-meter radius of where Nicole was hit while watching fireworks outside their house on San Lorenzo Street in Barangay 185 during the New Year’s Eve revelry.

Nicole died in a hospital two days later. A slug from a .45 caliber pistol was taken from her head.

Nicole will be buried tomorrow in Norzagaray, Bulacan.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is conducting a parallel investigation into the case and reports earlier claimed that the NBI is closing in on a new suspect.

Candelario said the Task Group welcomed the NBI probe for they only have one objective – “to bring justice” to Nicole’s killing.

The Task Group earlier picked up Juan Agus and his three friends for questioning on Nicole’s death but the four, who admitted firing a gun to greet the New Year, were only charged with alarm and scandal after ballistic tests showed their gun was not the weapon that killed the girl.

The four were out on bail but could be recalled to face a new probe if new evidence that would link them to Nicole’s death would come up.

School, family to honor Nicole

The family and school of Nicole are all set for the necrological services today.

Nicole’s remains will be transferred from her house to Tala Elementary School’s covered court at 9:30 a.m.

Jaime Albiza, faculty club head, said a Mass will be held before speakers, chosen by the school, will deliver their messages. – With Reinir Padua
