Corona leaves Medical City today
Manila, Philippines - Former chief justice Renato Corona leaves The Medical City today after more than a week of confinement for cardiac and kidney disorder as well as diabetes complications believed to have been triggered by stress during his impeachment trial.
Corona’s physician, nephrologist Dr. Irmingarda Gueco, gave the go signal for his discharge after subjecting him to several tests and medical procedures.
The former chief justice was rushed to the hospital on the night of May 22 after an unsuccessful and humiliating attempt to leave the Senate premises at the height of his impeachment trial.
Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile ordered security to lock all the gates to prevent Corona from stepping out of the premises.
Corona returned to the witness stand in a wheelchair three days later against the advice of his doctors.
He was with his wife Cristina and other family members in his hospital suite when the Senate impeachment court voted 20-3 on May 29 for his conviction for betrayal of public trust by failing to disclose all his assets.
His condition reportedly remained stable even after learning of the court’s guilty verdict.
