Noy awards electric coop linemen

GERONA, Tarlac, Philippines – President Aquino has awarded a certification of commendation to the linemen who restored power after the onslaught of typhoon “Juan” last October.

Plunged in a power outage was Cagayan Valley and Central Luzon.

The National Electrification Administration readily organized Task Force Kapatid-Typhoon Juan comprised of 13 electric cooperatives from Southern Luzon and Central Luzon.

They volunteered their foremen and linemen equipped with the necessary tools for the immediate rehabilitation of the damaged distribution lines and the restoration of electric power in the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Kalinga and Apayao.

Expenses for the salaries of volunteers, including their sustenance, during their deployment were shouldered by the 13 electric cooperatives.

In seven days, the damaged distribution lines were rehabilitated and power restored, except for some isolated areas, as soon as the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines energized its transmission lines.

In congratulating the linemen, Mr. Aquino said during the devastation of typhoons “Ondoy” and “Pepeng,” power in the affected areas was restored after a few months.

He is setting aside a budget of P1.2 billion for the Department of Energy to make sure the supply of power will continue, Mr. Aquino added.

The electric cooperatives included the Fleco in Laguna, Pelco 1, Pelco II, Pelco III all in Pampanga, Neeco in Nueva Ecija, Neeco ll -Al, Neeco ll-All also in Nueva Ecija, Tarelco l, Tarelco ll in Tarlac, Zameco ll in Zambales, Beneco in Benguet, Quirelco in Quirino and Nuvelco in Nueva Vizcaya.
