MANILA, Philippines – Workers nationwide can look forward to heftier pay after the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday reminded all employers to provide double pay to their workers who will work on Monday, a regular non-working holiday.
Acting Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said that April 7 was declared a regular non-working holiday in observance of Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9.
The April 9 holiday was transferred to April 7 to give people a long weekend starting today until Monday.
“The holiday pay rules, supposedly applicable for April 9, shall therefore be applied instead on April 7,” Roque explained.
Roque said that under the law, workers are entitled to receive 200 percent of their daily basic salary if they would report for work on a regular non-working holiday.
Malacañang earlier ordered that the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan be held two days ahead of schedule to allow the public to spend more time with family while remembering the heroism of Filipino and American soldiers during World War II.
Roque said even workers who will not report for work on Monday shall be paid 100 percent of their regular daily pay.
