Classes resume at IS-Manila

Classes at the International School Manila (ISM) in Makati City resumed yesterday, following the resignation of the board of trustees last Thursday.

Classes were suspended Wednesday and Thursday over the refusal of teachers and staff to hold classes in protest of the firing of school superintendent David Toze by the board of trustees.

In a letter to The STAR, one of the stakeholders at ISM who gathered proxy votes in favor of the removal of the trustees said that 80 percent of families of ISM students signed the petition to remove the board’s officials headed by its president Gracita Bocanegra.

Helen Castro Limcaoco noted that as of Thursday night, 854 out of 1,100 families collectively signed a statement moving to oust the remaining members of the board of trustees from office.

ISM stakeholders are now looking to a fresh start.

Trouble at the ISM started early this week when Toze was fired by the board of trustees over his failure to work harmoniously with them.

Teachers and staff walked out in protest, leading to the suspension of classes for two days. The board was forced to step down.

Meetings are now in progress to discuss when a new election will be held to install a new set of trustees. — Michael Punongbayan
