The times they’re a-changin’.
In the good old days, when an actress got pregnant out of wedlock, she would quietly disappear from the scene and seek shelter with the nuns or with family members, far from the maddening crowd and out of the reach of media.
These days, when an actress gets pregnant out of wedlock, she infects the social media with her indiscretion and brazenly flaunts it on national TV.
Kylie Padilla is the only one talking about her three-month pregnancy courtesy of her boyfriend Aljur Abrenica (they reconciled in September last year after breaking up a year earlier, vacationed in Japan together and came home to live-in in October at Aljur’s new house, minus Aljur’s family).
Kylie’s Auntie BB Gandanghari and (right) Bernardo Bernardo (a.k.a. BB) have many things in common, including being, well, ‘free spirits’.
Since Aljur is mum and so are Kylie’s Australia-based mom Liesl Sicangco and dad Robin Padilla (who seems to be in denial, while helping his wife Mariel Rodriguez nurse their first-born delivered in the US last year), Funfare decided to get the opinion of BB Gandanghari, Robin’s ex-brother/now-sister who was reported to have changed gender from “male” to “female.” I checked my phone directory and texted the number of “BB” (as listed in the directory) if I could call and the reply was, yes, “Sure!” The phone chat turned out to be a big surprise (as you will find out by and by).
Here’s how our exchange went (BB’s answers in quote-unquote):
Hi BB. Have you really changed from “male” to “female”?
“No. I’m still ‘male’.”
Oh, so it’s not true that you have undergone a sex reassignment.
“No. Buo pa. I didn’t cut it. It’s still functioning but sometimes I need a Viagra for performance level.”
How’s your sex life?
“I have been celibate for a long time…during most of the 12 years that I was in the States and two years since I came back to stay.”
And your lovelife?
“Been there, done that. Dati, naloloka ako kapag naghihiwalay after seven years at kapag nagkita parang hindi magkakilala. Tapos na ako sa ganyan.”
By the way, I’m sure you have heard about Kylie.
“What about Kylie?”
She announced on social media and on TV that she’s (three months pregnant).
“Who did it?”
Her boyfriend, Aljur Abrenica.
“It’s good that she didn’t have it aborted.”
Kylie said that that’s what her mom told her. Mabuti hindi pina-abort. They talked daw on the phone.
“Good…Instead of opting for convenience.”
The two are engaged na daw, according to Kylie’s manager. Aljur is said to be upset that he and Kylie were preempted in making a joint announcement. If and when they decide to get married, won’t there be any problem because Kylie is Muslim and Aljur is Catholic? I remember when you and Carmina (Villarroel, now happily married to Zoren Legaspi by whom she has beautiful twins) got married, Carmina converted from Catholicism to Islam.
“One of them should convert, para one religion na lang. Kailangan magkasundo sila kung sino ang magko-convert.”
Anyway, what’s your advice to Kylie?
“Ha?”
When was the last time you talked to her?
“Ha? I don’t remember when. Sino ba si Kylie?”
Oh, aren’t you close to her?
“Hmmmmm…”
Are you not close to Kylie and your other pamangkin?
“Pamangkin?”
Yes, the children of Robin.
“Who’s Robin?”
Robin Padilla.
“Hahahahaha! Ricky, you are talking to BB but not Gandanghari. This is BB…Bernardo Bernardo!”
Oh!!!!!!
(P.S. Funfare is still trying to locate the “real BB,” last reported to be in New York. Through his lawyer Rudolf Phillip Jurado, Robin said that when he’s ready to talk, “sa tamang panahon,” he’ll do so in this corner. Stay tuned.)
