MANILA, Philippines — TV personalties Isabelle de Leon, Michelle Dee and Kelley Day of GMA Artist Center are among the 40 official candidates of this year’s Miss World Philippines competition.
Best known as the child actress Duday in the Vic Sotto-led GMA sitcom “Daddy Di Do Du,” Isabelle won as FAMAS Best Child Actress for her role in the dramatic movie “Magnifico.” The singer-songwriter has recently signed under PolyEast Records.
Meanwhile, Dee is the daughter of Miss International 1979 and actress Melanie Marquez, niece of comedian Joey Marquez, and cousin of Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 Winwyn Marquez.
A former member of the all-girl dance troupe GirlTrends of ABS-CBN’s “It’s Showtime,” Kelley made headlines for being the ex-girlfriend of Kapamilya singer Inigo Pascual.
Other candidates include Filipino-American Michelle Arceo, girlfriend of actor and “Las Bastardos” star Albie Casiño. She was recently crowned as Miss BodyCon 2019.
Joining the roster is Michelle Thorlund, Miss World Philippines 2018 and Miss Intercontinental 2017 first runner-up Katarina Rodriguez’s fellow contestant in the iflix reality show “The People’s Queen.”
Returning to the Miss World Philippines pageant is Miss World Philippines 2017 First Princess Glyssa Perez.
Ilene De Vera, Binibining Pilipinas 2019 top 25 finalist, also joins Miss World Philippines, alongside other past Binibining Pilipinas hopefuls Ruffa Nava, Sammie Anne Legaspi and Kayesha Chua, Binibini batchmate of reigning Miss Universe and Miss World Philippines 2016 Catriona Gray.
Other candidates are winners or runners-up of local or school pageants.
Also of note are candidates such as 2017 Nursing Board topnotcher Sharielle Yanson and Belgian-Filipina Louise Tan Theunis of Cebu Doctor's University, who topped the pharmacist board exam last year.
Other candidates include teachers, models, flight attendants and corporate world leaders.
