MANILA, Philippines— Global pop singing sensation and 2019 double Grammy nominee Dua Lipa co-wrote and sang the new single, “Swan Song,” for Twentieth Century Fox’s epic-action adventure film "Alita: Battle Angel".

"From the moment we saw her video for 'New Rules', we knew that Dua Lipa would be the perfect artist to do a song for 'Alita: Battle Angel',” producer Jon Landau said in a release.

“She has the kick-ass strength, power and attitude in her performances that Alita embodies in the movie.  Jim, Robert and I are thrilled to have her onboard and are confident she will make 'Swan Song' the perfect inspiring and empowering anthem for our film,” he added.

Lipa said she was intrigued how the “amazing” team of creators came together to make the movie possible. She also likened herself to the main cyborg character, Alita.

“I see a little of myself in her, in both her badass spirit and our shared haircut. Alita is all about empowerment and standing up for who you are, which are two things that resonate with me,” Lipa said.

“Swan Song” co-written by Lipa, was also written by Justin Tranter, Kennedi Lykken, Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson, Tom Holkenborg.

Lipa was consistently the most streamed female artist on Spotify and has been in the top five globally this past year. She sold over 3 million copies, with singles reaching 40 million sold.

The British-Albanian pop star received Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for “Electricity” (with Silk City featuring Diplo & Mark Ronson). She made BRIT Award history by becoming the first woman artist to pick up five nominations, taking home the awards for British Breakthrough Act and British Female Solo Artist.

Meanwhile, Lipa’s “Swan Song” was chosen as one of the official soundtrack of “Alita: Battle Angel.”

The film stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson. Its screenplay was written by James Cameron and Laeta Kalogridis, based upon the graphic novel (“Manga”) series “GUNNM”  by Yukito Kishiro.

It is produced by renowned filmmaker and producer James Cameron and Landau ("Avatar") and is directed by Robert Rodriguez (“Sin City”).

“Alita: Battle Angel” opened in Philippine cinemas on February 6. It is now showing nationwide. —Rosette Adel
