Premiere: ‘The symbol of great entertainment’

In 1950, Premiere Productions announced its new offerings, billed ‘star-studded hits coming your way.’

The four movies lived up to Premiere’s tag, ‘symbol of great entertainment.’

Consider Lina Flor’s hugely popular radio play Gulong ng Palad, with Jose Padilla and Arsenia Francisco. Directed by Consuelo Osorio. In later years, Gulong ng Palad was revived two times on television.

How about the classic komiks serial Kenkoy by Tony Velasquez, with Lopito in the title role and as Virgie Montes as his wife Rosing? Ramon Estella at the helm.

Gerardo de Leon (later named National Artist) directed Teodorico Santos’ Doble Cara, starring Rogelio dela Rosa, Enrico Pimentel and Nena Cardenas.

Another Teodorico Santos story is Kampana sa San Diego, costume picture topbilled by Efren Reyes and Virginia Montes. Directed by Eduardo de Castro. — RKC
