MANILA, Philippines — “Philippines, Japan and Singapore, I am bringing my Flicker world Tour to you next year!”

This is how Niall Horan opened his announcement of his Manila concert on June 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena. This will be his first concert in Manila as a solo artist.

The Irish singer and songwriter, best known as a member of boy group One Direction, went as a solo artist in 2016 and since released his first studio album, “Flicker,” which includes the hits “This Town” and “Slow Hands,” which are both in the Top 20 of the US Billboard Hot 100. Last September 15, her released his third single, “Too Much to Ask.”

In previous interviews, Niall said “Flicker” was inspired by classic rock artists like The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. He described the album as having a “folk-with-pop” feel, which is quite different from what he does with One Direction.

It can be recalled that Horan first came to fame when he auditioned as a solo artist for British singing contest “The X Factor.” After being eliminated in the show, he and four other contestants, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Zayn Malik, formed One Direction and finished third in “The X Factor.”

One Direction then signed up with Simon Cowell’s Syco Records and released five albums that included the chart-topping hits “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Best Song Ever” and “Story of My Life,” to name a few. Their awards include 28 Teen Choice Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 11 MTV Europe Music Awards, seven American Music Awards, and six Brit Awards.

On November 8, Niall is set to perform alongside country music star Maren Morris at the 51st Country Music Association Awards.
