Philippines dance troupes winners in Korean festival

MANILA, Philippines - Durian Dance Team (top), a group of students from various Davao universities, bagged the Gold Prize in the recently concluded sixth IYF World Cultural Dance Festival for their ‘outstanding and memorable performance which expressed the purity of their native culture and promoted its beauty.’

The Bronze Prize went to Salinggawi Dance Troupe (above) of University of Santo Tomas (Philippines) while the Grand Prize and Silver Prize were awarded to American Dream (USA) and Team SISU (Finland), respectively.

Hosted by the International Youth Fellowship at Jeonju City, South Korea, the other participating countries were Ukraine, South Africa, Benin, Thailand, India, China and host country South Korea.

Prior to the dance festival, the delegates participated in the 2017 World Culture Camp held in Busan and Gimcheon for two weeks.  

For the record, the Philippines has won for four consecutive years: 2014, Aquinas University of Legazpi City, Albay (Silver Prize); 2015, Kahayag Dance Company of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental (Grand Prize); and 2016, Sanlahi Pangkat Kawayan of University of Perpetual Help, Las Piñas City (Silver Prize).
