MANILA, Philippines — From merely a love team in the Korean drama series “Descendants of the Sun,” Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki are set to take their relationship to the next level as they announce their marriage in October.

After the agencies of the co-stars, Blossom Entertainment and United Artists Agency, made the announcement that the Korean stars will marry this year, actor Joong Ki asked for fans' blessing.

The actor shared how they developed a loving relationship after doing his role in the 2016 hit drama series, “Descendants of the Sun.”

“It’s been a long time since I greeted you guys. I’m writing this because I want to receive your blessings before anyone else. I am truly nervous as I am writing this but I wish to tell you guys my true feelings,” Joong Ki said in his statement.

“I was recently able to be part of a drama that made me shine brighter than ever before and I enjoyed the happiest days of my life because of your tremendous love I received from everyone. After the drama, I gained another precious friend who I shared my honest feelings with, and we developed a loving relationship,” he added.

Celebrity couple to marry in October

Earlier, Blossom Entertainment and UAA agencies’ joint statement announced that the “Descendants of the Sun” love team will hold their wedding ceremony on October 31. It added that the celebrity couple will issue a separate statement regarding their wedding.

“A marriage is not only a private matter but also a meeting between two families, so it was a delicate situation in many ways,” the joint statement read.

“There was no choice but to be cautious prior to marriage, and so we are at last conveying this message. We ask for everyone’s understanding,” it added.

The agencies thanked the K-drama stars’ Korean and international fans for showing interest and love for their talents as they made the surprising announcement. They also urged the fans to extend their congratulatory messages for the Song couple.

“We ask for you to send the couple best wishes for their beautiful future together, and the two actors will be conveying the news to their fans separately. Thank you,” the statement read.

Hye Kyo shares start of their love story

Meanwhile, Hye Kyo said she hoped her fans understand their “sudden wedding news,” citing that she was just being extra careful before she make the announcement.

“I understand that you may think I lacked the respect for my fans and that you could have been shocked, but I hope you can understand me with an open heart,” she added.

In her statement, the actress also shared how she realized she loved Joong Ki. She said Joong Ki was a good co-worker and a friend to her and they matched well.

“Throughout the project, I realized that we had similar values and ideas, and I was able to share everything with him,” Hye Kyo said.

"Joong Ki showed me his self, trust, and his manners for a long time. I thought to myself that it would be good to spend the future with him and I was glad that he could feel my true emotions as well," she added.

"That’s when I knew that he was the one," the actress continued.

A week before the wedding announcement, the two were reportedly seen in Bali, Indonesia but the actors denied the “secret getaway.”

Although they became a couple after filming their hit series “Descendants of the Sun,” Hye Kyo and Joong Ki did not make any official announcement regarding their relationship.

Hye Kyo previously starred in television series “Full house” and “Autumn in my heart,” among others while Joong Ki has played a role in “Running Man.”
