MANILA, Philippines - Foreign tourists come to Philippine shores not only because of the world-class beaches and resorts, natural attractions, historical landmarks and big shopping malls but also because of religious and cultural festivals across the country.
Starting January Filipinos honor the Sto. Niño via the Sinulog in Cebu and other festivals in other parts of the country. During the Lenten season, the local inhabitants have their versions showing the sacrifices and sufferings of Jesus Christ.
Another big event where foreign guests can witness a big crowd is the celebration of the feast of the Black Nazarene every Jan. 9. Two or three million devotees join and witness the procession until early in the morning the next day.
There are just some of the festivals in the country where tourists can enjoy and also join in the festivities.
