Hokkaido in Biyahe ni Drew

MANILA, Philippines - Like most good things, Biyahe ni Drew’s month-long second anniversary celebration must come to an end. Tonight at 8 on GMA News TV, host Drew Arellano ends it with a bang by escaping the Philippines’ summer heat and cooling off in Japan’s northernmost part, Hokkaido.

Drew hops on a frosty adventure in Niseko Village, one of Japan’s top winter destinations where it snows for eight months. For the first time, Drew tries out and learns the basics of snowboarding. He also gets to experience snow rafting and the adrenalin-pumping snow mobile ride.

After a rough day of extreme activities, Drew chills out in Green Leaf Hotel wherein one of the main attractions points to onsen or the public bath area. He indulges himself in a unique chance of enjoying a heated pool under the falling snow.

His next stop is the seaside tourist town Otaru, a fishing village that boasts of the best sushi — from tuna, salmon, uni, herring to salmon roe, scallop and shrimps — Drew tries them all.

Drew also meets winter animals like penguins, pandas, black bears and snow leopards in Hokkaido’s oldest animal shelter, the Marumaya Zoo.

Drew caps off his fantastic trip in the Sapporo Beer Museum where a famous drink was first made in the 1870s.
