A new type of love story

Forevermore is the story of Xander (Enrique Gil), the rebellious and broken son of a hotel magnate and Agnes (Liza Soberano), the humble and hardworking daughter of a strawberry farmer in Benguet. Both cross paths when the rich spoiled Xander crashes into Agnes’ strawberry truck while base jumping. Xander’s parents make him pay for the damages and his recklessness by having him work in Agnes’ farm without any comfortable amenities. Xander’s immersion in a totally different world was not easy for both Xander and Agnes. However, eventually, Xander, with the help of Agnes and their community, will transform from a brash, broken boy to a charming man loved by everyone.

Soon, both will fall in love, but unknown to Agnes, Xander has an unfinished business with his first love, Kate (Sofia Andres). Aside from this, Xander and Agnes’ love will be further challenged as they get entangled with the strawberry farm land dispute between their families. Because of this, they both realize that it’s best for them to go separate ways and this is where their love story ends. And this is also where our viewing ended.

How would we continue the love story of Agnes and Xander? There are numerous options. Xander would realize that his one true love is Kate who had amnesia due to an accident. Now that she is cured, Kate is ready to claim the love of Xander. Or the srawberry farm management goes bankrupt, and the owners have no other option but to sell. Now that the happy strawberry farm family will have no land to till, no place to live, and another occupation they could get into but farming, they will separate and go to Manila to look for a new life. And this is where the focus of the story will shift from the stars Agnes and Xander, and land on the laps of the farmers.

In Manila, the stench and the fast pace of life will get into the nerves of Tatay played by Joey Marquez who had regaled us all with his antics and now will suddenly start speaking in another tongue and will land in the hospital (for the insane?). The dad of Agnes will be even stricter than he had been in the teleserye where he watched his daughter’s every move, making certain that the couple slept in separate quarters — Agnes in the house, and Xander inside a tent.

Joey Marquez plays strict father to Liza

But as fate would have it, after two years of separation, they meet again, in the most unfavorable of circumstances. Xander is proposing to Kate while Agnes is moving on with her best friend Andrew (Yves Flores). In one of the episodes, Agnes suddenly admits in front of everyone her growing romantic feelers for Xander saying “Ay Ayaten Ka or I Love You in Ilocano.” Everyone will be caught by surprise by this unexpected confession.

The theme song of Forevermore starts playing loudly in the background, a signal that the series will soon end unless by popular demand, the writers dream up an excuse to extend the series.

We shall have to admit that this particular teleserye attracted us by a combination of many aspects. First, it is not your usual dyed in the wool series where everything is a repetition of every other series. Second, the setting of Baguio and Benguet with it a clean air and lovely terrain is perfect for a love story of pure intentions. And lastly, the casting of the two leads Xander and Agnes is just what the ailing brand of teleseryes needed; a breath of fresh air. We predict that in no time at all their names as Enrique and Liza will get to be branded as “Lizen” by the new media.
