SunPIOLOgy 2014 raises over P2M for charity

MANILA, Philippines - Close to 3,000 runners participated in SunPIOLOgy: An Adventure-Filled Run with the Stars, raising a total of over P2M to help children have brighter smiles.

Organized by RunRio, this year’s SunPIOLOgy featured mazes and crawls that added excitement to the usual fun run. Proceeds of the event will go to the scholarship programs of Hebreo Foundation and Star Magic, the outreach activities of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation and Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation’s program offering free surgery for children with craniofacial deformities.

“I know that some of the participants had been with us since the very beginning six years ago. I’ve heard of stories about how SunPIOLOgy has become an annual tradition and a personal advocacy for them, and it truly warms my heart that we at Sun Life have been able to bridge something this meaningful to many people,” says Sun Life Financial-Philippines president Riza Mantaring.

Meanwhile, an additional P265,000 was raised for the diabetes awareness campaign of the Philippine Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Sun Life Financial conducted a zumba session dubbed Dance Diabetes Away, which served as a warm-up for the runners, and Sun Life donated P100 for every runner who participated.

“In the Philippines, where the population of diabetics is expected to grow at among the fastest rates in Asia, Sun Life is stepping up to help raise awareness on the risk of diabetes and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. With Dance Diabetes Away, we hope to help people realize that every single day; they are making decisions that determine their long-term health. More importantly, we want people to be aware that Type 2 diabetes can be prevented,” shares Sun Life Asia president Kevin Strain who flew in from Hong Kong to join the event.

Jointly mounted by Sun Life and Star Magic, SunPIOLOgy enjoyed the participation of over a hundred celebrities, led by Sun Life ambassador Piolo Pascual and son Iñigo. Other stars who joined were Jolina Magdangal, Iza Calzado, Matteo Guidicelli, Ejay Falcon, Jessy Mendiola, Rayver Cruz, JC de Vera, Zaijian Jaranilla, Nash Aguas, Alexa Ilacad, Sofia Andres, Michelle Vito and the PBB: All In housemates, among others.

The event was supported by Sun Life Foundation; JM Squared; One Meralco Foundation; ANC; Business Mirror; Star Studio; Cinema One; Jeepney TV; Mellow 94.7; Outcomm; The Philippine STAR; PDI; YES Magazine; Toby’s; Runnr; F1 Hotel Manila; St. Luke’s Medical Center; 360 Fitness Club; Gardenia; Jamba Juice; Krispy Kreme; Max’s; Purefoods Sexy Chix; San Mig Coffee; Nizoral; Sun Life Grepa Financial; Bonifacio Global City; Gatorade; Manila Water; and Timex.
