Araw ng Pag-Asa on Bonifacio Day

MANILA, Philippines - On Nov. 30, join the cast of Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo in commemorating the life and heroism of Andres Bonifacio with a full-day event dubbed as Araw ng Pag-Asa. Alluding to the hero’s famous pseudonym, the one-of-a-kind celebration aims to honor the undying hope and strength that Bonifacio imparted to his countrymen.

The whole-day event, to be held at Bonifacio Monument Circle in Caloocan City, will kick off its festivities at 8 a.m. as Bonifacio star Robin Padilla (photo) lead the flag-raising ceremony and commemoration program.

Soon after, a feast of colors and games will greet the public with the Tatag Bonifacio, Tatag Revicon program. Starting at 9 a.m., participants can join different contests inspired by iconic Filipino games. Amazing prizes and freebies will be given away.

Rounding up the celebration is the HIMIG-sikan: A Concert for Bonifacio at 4:30 p.m. The musical event is headlined by award-winning rap artist Gloc-9. The country’s current best-selling rapper will perform his latest hits and debut the official song of Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo titled Hindi Pa Tapos. Joining Gloc-9 on stage is the cast of Bonifacio — Robin Padilla, Vina Morales, Jasmine Curtis Smith, RJ Padilla and Rommel Padilla.

The event is open to the public. Robin, an ardent supporter of Bonifacio, couldn’t stress enough the importance of celebrating the momentous day: “Bonifacio sacrificed so much for his country (and this event) is our way of reminding everyone that what he lived and died for still holds true today. We are still fighting the same revolution he fought more than a hundred years ago. We will continue to celebrate his heroism and be inspired to fight for our country.”

Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo is an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival 2014. The film is directed by Enzo Williams and produced by Philippians Productions. It opens in cinemas nationwide on Dec. 25.
